With winter just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about how you’re going to keep your home warm during the colder months. While it may seem tempting to crank your heating up to the highest setting all day, your energy consumption will soon shoot up and you’ll be left with some costly bills to pay.

Poorly insulated properties can be difficult to warm up in winter, however, there are a few purse-friendly things you can do to keep out cold air, one of them being investing in the right pair of curtains.

Below, we take a look at how to keep your home warm this winter with the right pair of curtains.

Prevent heat loss with thermal curtains

Your windows could be letting in cold air to your property, bringing down the temperature of your home and causing you to turn up the heating. If you have single glazed windows, warm air can escape through any gaps in the glass and around the seals.

Investing in thermal lined curtains is an effective way to trap heat in your home and keep the cold air out. Thermal lined curtains are made from multi-layered fabrics with extra layers of microfibre, acting as a heavy thermal barrier between your home and cold temperatures outside.

Shut your curtains when it gets dark

When it’s warm and sunny outside, keep your curtains open to let in as much warmth and light into your home as possible. When the sun sets, the temperature quickly drops, so make sure you trap in as much heat as possible by shutting the curtains.

Invest in door curtains

Draught excluders can be placed at the bottom of doors to keep warm air from escaping through gaps beneath the door. However, they don’t quite cover all the gaps around a door. Rather than using a draught excluder, consider investing in door curtains. Not only do they look sleek and stylish, but they also provide maximum coverage and keep cold air out more effectively than standard draught excluders. Door curtains are particularly effective for back doors or doors with letterboxes which may let cold breezes through.
